Holistic Medicine vs. Conventional Medicine

Most people in the United States have experienced conventional medicine, however few have experienced or even heard of holistic medicine. I'm going to explain the benefits of holistic medicine and explain how conventional and holistic medicine should be integrated. To do this I will clarify what holistic medicine is, how it is different than conventional medicine and then I will explain the holistic approach to healing and give examples of techniques used.

What is Holistic Medicine?

The holistic approach is the attempt to stimulate the body to heal itself. It is also about honoring nature and keeping anything unnatural out of your body, while keeping it internally cleaned, toned and rejuvenated. It means obtaining your nutrition from whole foods and natural herbs. It means clean air, pure water, adequate exercise, rest, and effective stress management. It means absence from abuse of toxic substances that deplete nutrients and cause cellular trauma, including drugs, alcoholic beverages, tobacco, nicotine, and caffeine.

How is it different?

Holistic Medicine
Holistic medicine views a person as a whole and looks at their body, mind and spirit. It understands how each body system affects the others and the importance of nutrition. The only two causes of disease are malnutrition and toxicity. When seeing a Naturopath, they focus on changing your diet and detoxifying your body through a number of different ways. Some ways are: removing certain foods from your diet and anything unnatural you're putting into your body, Colonics, (a process that cleanses the colon with purified water, this immediately releases toxic matter from the body and promotes detoxing throughout the entire body) and Ionization Therapy (releases toxins through the feet or arms).

Conventional Medicine
Does not view people as a whole being but as fragmented parts and as a chemical formula. It doesn't focus on how each organ works with the others and focuses more on your chemical makeup. Conventional doctors are not as thorough as Naturopaths when giving an examination; they are more geared towards the prescription of drugs. These medications that conventional doctors prescribe are made up of synthetic chemicals. Human cells see these chemicals as foreign and toxic. Our bodies are not able to metabolize them without hurting the healthy cells, so they are stored in the cells, tissues and organs. Which will lead to a build up of toxins in the body, and cells will begin to mutate and turn cancerous (80% of cancer is from malnutrition and lifestyle).
